Unlike some of the major heresies against which the Rab­banites fought in the Second Temple period and after(including the belief system of the Sadducees), Karaite dogma includes the stan­dard Jewish elements of resurrection, reward and punishment, and the coming of a Messiah of the Davidic line. Karaism differs from Rabbanism most significantly in its insistence on the diversity of opinion its philosophy expects among its adherents, since each Jew will understand the Torah from his or her own unique perspective.
