Preface

This symposium was held on May 16 and 17, 1987 at the Rodef Shalom Congregation in order to honor Solomon B. Freehof on the occasion of his 95th birthday. The theme dealt with the subject to which he has devoted the last forty years of his life. We wish him many more years of life and health so that he may continue to contribute to American Jewish studies.
