Joan S. FrieDMAN served as Jewish Chaplain and Instructor in religion at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York . She has served on the Responsa Committee of the Central Conference of American Rabbis since 1994. She is currently preparing a doctoral dissertation on Solomon B. Freehof .

WALTER Jacos is Senior Scholar of Rodef Shalom Congregation, Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . President of the Abraham Geiger College in Berlin /Potsdam , Past President of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, President of the Solomon B. Freehof Institute of Progressive Halakhah, and the Associated American Jewish Museums. Author and editor of twenty-seven books including Contemporary American Reform Responsa(1987), Liberal Judaism and Halakhah(1988), The Healing Past: Pharmaceuticals in the Biblical and Rabbinic World(1993), Not by Birth Alone, Conversion to Judaism(1997), Gender Issues in Jewish Law(2000).

RicHARD S. RHEINS is Rabbi of Temple David in Monroeville, Pennsylvania , a member of the Responsa Committee of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. He has written in the

field of halakhah.

ALAN SokoBIN is Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Israel in Toledo , Ohio , and Professor at the University of Toledo School of Law. He has written extensively in both Jewish and general law, most recentlyChild Abuse: a Study in Comparative American and Jewish Law in The University of Toledo Law Review.
